Specific Accountabilities:
Provides leadership and direction for mechanical, electrical, and building systems by:

  • Making short
- and long-term plans related to the department's operational functions;

  • Supervising new, emergency and regularly scheduled repairs with minimum interruptions/disruption to the teaching and learning process;
  • Developing and coordinating work assignments for the skilled trades team by employing data driven decision making to prioritize, schedule, and implement work assignments to ensure the best use of college resources.
  • Developing solutions to building issues through collection of data and analyzing it to adjust current processes and plans.
Provides leadership and direction for general maintenance and grounds by:

  • Developing and coordinating work assignments for the maintenance team by employing data driven decision making to prioritize, schedule, and implement work assignments to ensure the best use of college resources.
  • Identifying long term deferred maintenance items and working with team members and contractors to ensure positive outcomes of related projects work
  • Establishing and implementing work plans and processes to support a proactive approach for preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensuring college and legislated standards and practices related to work performed by contractors are adhered to
  • Establishing safe work practices for assigned areas within the Facilities Management department. Provides leadership for the department in developing and administering the Health and Safety program and related practices. Ensures standards and practices related to Occupational Safety as they relate to department operations are followed and adhered to, works in conjunction with the Health & Safety department and others within Facilities to manage risk within the College community.

Provides contract management, planning, and financial accountability by:

  • Establishing relationships with external vendors of service to strengthen and maintain Facilities procedures and best practices to ensure high customer satisfaction and positive support outcomes by meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Proactively assessing critical contract obligations, assessing gaps and risk areas, while guiding Facilities service contract vendors in understanding and adhering to the college's expectations.
  • Working in conjunction with Purchasing Services and Senior Facilities Management staff, the incumbent assists in the development of various Purchasing requirements (RFP's). Assists with the procurement, management, negotiation and acts as the initial contact for various College Service contractors/providers (i.e. elevator service, equipment commissioning). Ensures that College and legislated standards and practices related to the work performed by contractors are adhered to. The incumbent, in conjunction with other supervisors, will form and participate in the College's Inclement Weather Guidelines procedure.
  • Developing and maintaining operating budgets within the area of supervision.
  • Creating and implementing mutliyear service plans to control costs/resources and ensure efficient financial responsibility.
  • Assisting in the development of short
- and long-range capital project and equipment requirements with supporting documentation and submits related budget decision or capital requests as required. Ensures budget cycle guidelines are adhered to.

About the Position:
This is a full-time Administrative position reporting to the Director, Facilities Management. The start date of this position is February 6, 2023.
