Reporting to the Production Manager, the Wardrobe First-Hand works as an integral member in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD).

The incumbent works closely with the Theatre Sheridan Head of Wardrobe in preparation for all activities to be performed during the academic year.

The incumbent plans and implements a variety of tasks and workflows related to costume drafting and prep, equipment and component management, and other production-specific needs.

As needed/available, the incumbent is also responsible for providing additional in-room support and hands-on demonstrations to all students working in the studio.

What You'll be Doing

Assisting Head of Wardrobe with acquisition and construction of costumes for each production;
Preparing work for Stitchers;
Assisting Head of Wardrobe in fittings, cutting, pattern making, stitching, and alterations;
Attending costume fittings as needed/requested;
Assisting in laundering and repair of costumes;
Completing hand and finish work as assigned;
Assisting Head of Wardrobe to determine best construction techniques;
Cleaning and maintaining equipment;
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment;
Performing any additional tasks as requested by the Head of Wardrobe or the Production Manager.

About You

You have a highly collaborative spirit and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with others to support establishing and achieving collective goals.

2-year Diploma or equivalent in Theatre Production or Fashion Design.

Knowledge and expertise in costume techniques and materials.

Expertise in pattern drafting, draping principles, and drafting from draping.

Excellent machine and hand sewing skills.

Knowledge of other costume machinery including irons, sergers, industrial sewing machines.

Knowledge of costume and fashion history.

Knowledge of fabric types and their uses for stage.

Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work with a team and skillfully delegate work.

Experience working with educational institutions is an asset.

Minimum 3 years' experience in theatrical costume construction is an asset.

Strong understanding of the theatre production workflow is an asset.

Driver with full-G license or equivalent is an asset.
