What You'll Do
Gyptech is seeking an
Estimator to join our head office Sales Team. Gyptech is committed to company growth and increased market share driven by increased sales. We are looking for a people-oriented professional to gather data required in preparing detailed estimates.


Your role will involve:

  • Working closely with the Sales Team to accurately build total project costing for customer quotations.
  • Working closely with internal groups such as Project Management, Fabrication, Mechanical and Electrical Design groups under direction of senior sales staff and upper management.
  • Assisting the other estimator with the evaluation and/or development of cost estimates from historical and corporate ERP data.
  • Assisting in performing analysis of cost estimates, preparing contingency, escalation, and reconciliations for estimates; performing comparisons of scope, quantities and cost data between projects. Developing templates, unit rates, quantity takeoffs and work hour estimates.
  • Reviewing process designs and engineering specifications for cost effectiveness, identifying cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
  • Analyzing completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies in reports.
  • Organizing and managing a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
  • Ability to create and maintain an accurate estimating database based on historical company data and the various other database information available in the industry.
  • Assisting in preparing subcontract & materials inquiries and reviewing subsequent quotations.
  • Reading, interpreting and understanding engineering specifications and process design drawings (PFD's, P&ID's, Equipment Data Sheets, etc.).
  • Assisting in preparing or reviewing the construction schedule, providing manhours and equipment requirements for each activity.
  • Participating in postconstruction meetings on each job to provide feedback to the team and the estimating staff.
The role is based out of our head office in Burlington, Ontario. There is a possibility of international travel.


What You Offer

  • Estimating experience in an engineertoorder environment with experience in bidding midsized to large projects.
  • Field experience is a significant asset.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills and technical writing skills are a must.
  • Good presentation, interpersonal and team management skills.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering/vendor specifications and drawings.
  • Detail oriented, highly organized and able to work effectively with shifting priorities.
  • Selfmotivated and hardworking, effectively working on multiple projects at a time.
  • Auto-CAD, Autodesk Inventor, MS Office and ERP software knowledge will be an asset.
  • Extensive understanding of construction methods and materials.
  • A high aptitude in understanding estimating technology and the ability to identify opportunities to maximize the efficiency of the estimating process.
