About the Role:


You will contribute by:

The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position:

  • Anchoring Global Edmonton News at 11 Monday through Friday.
  • Reporting live onlocation and instudio at 5 and 6 p.m., including unscripted material.
  • Producing local news content from video gathered in the field along with affiliate, national and international content.
  • Creating and writing strong, enterprise digital and social media content.
  • Working with Executive Producer and Managing Editor on breaking news coverage and execution.
  • Displaying creativity in production techniques to ensure all content is compelling.
  • Anchoring other newscasts as required including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Participating in the research and development of original, creative story ideas.
  • Participating in Global Edmonton promotional & community activities.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in broadcast journalism or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience anchoring and reporting onair is required, as well as a strong background in broadcast and online journalism.
  • Exceptional news writing, news delivery, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong onair presentation skills with an emphasis on live, interview and unscripted material.
  • Demonstrated experience covering breaking news and working on multiple developing stories.
  • Adept writer for broadcast, online and social media with great online and traditional story research skills.
  • Proven ability to write accurate, concise and creative broadcast copy.
  • Ability to engage and inform viewers online and through social media.
  • Strong news judgment for stories that matter to our audiences.
  • Proven ability to gather and disseminate news in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability in multifunctional tasks such as video shooting, editing and producing would be considered an asset.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere.
  • A positive, friendly manner approaching challenging situations with empathy and sincerity.
  • Strong initiative and problemsolving skills.
