Cook, Long-term Care Part-time - Burlington, Canada - Orange Lily Group
Description
We are looking for individuals with foodservice-related experience serving large quantities of food, in hospitality kitchens, community food facilities, or related areas to help assist our Long-Term Care home in Burlington. To respond to these needs, we are looking to the community to help with filling the critical role of Cook within our LTC Home.
Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor and Nutrition Manager, the Cook is responsible for performing food preparation and production functions; and ensuring standards are met in accordance with Ministry of LTC Standards, as well as departmental policies and procedures.
Potential Responsibilities Include:
- Read, interpret, and prepare standardized recipes and food items as indicated on Menu production sheets for all resident areas
- Prepare meals and beverages using specific procedures, with knowledge and understanding of food texture modifications
- Maintain the safe operation of food preparation equipment
- Ensure proper and safe storage and handling of all food products
- Accurately record meals served and monitor food temperatures
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area by complying with sanitation procedures
- Participate in menu planning
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Management
- Supervision/guidance of dietary staff in the absence of the FSM*Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
- Successful completion of a Chef training or Culinary Management diploma from a vocational or trade school or community college or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Red Seal certification (asset)

Food Handler or equivalent
- Knowledge of and demonstration of key customer service competencies including customer focus, time management, communication skills, teamwork collaboration, among others.
- Experienced in sanitation and food safety procedures
- Knowledge of and ability to operate institutional and jobrelated food service tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of the Sanitation Code, Health Protection and Promotions Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and MOHLTC guidelines as related to food and nutrition service
- Culinary and/or foodservice experience in a healthcare facility is an asset
- Familiarity with modified texture diets is an asset
- Interest working with the elderly population and food service operations in LTC would be an asset
- Access to transportation to travel to the LTC home
