The Opportunity:


Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Collating information on sleep research projects in different departments and faculties within Dalhousie University, other universities within Nova Scotia and throughout the Maritimes.
  • Identifying professionals with clinical, educational and/or research sleep interests and expertise within the Maritimes.
  • Fostering connections and relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Data base management which includes data collection, entry, preparation, and analysis.
  • Explore HSNS database access and other sources of data
  • Support priority setting exercises on research priorities for the IWK regarding sleep.
  • Help write the Research Centre Application.
  • Develop a Sleep for Health website
  • Assist with tracking and reporting progress.
  • Draft reports/presentations/manuscript and publication materials.
  • Conduct literature searches including interpretation and summarizing scientific literature.
  • Patient partner engagement.
  • Managing study finances within study budgets
  • Other related administrative duties as needed.
  • Assistance with general management:
  • Coordinating meetings and events (e.g., booking rooms, managing equipment, preparing agendas, recording minutes, etc.)
  • Preparing reports and other summary documents (e.g., CVs)
  • Establishing and maintaining office filing systems to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of information and records.
  • Photocopying, scanning, and delivering documents.
  • Assist with supervising research volunteers and trainees.

Hours of Work:

16-20 hours/week. Some flexibility can be accommodated (e.g., some early mornings, evenings, or weekends may be required)

Note:

Currently many research staff and trainees are working remotely due to COVID-19 protocols and thus, the position is likely to include remote working as well as being on site at the IWK Health Centre.


Your Qualifications:


  • Master's degree (research based) or doctorate degree preferred but a relevant Honours degree may be considered
  • Experience in a related role in a health centre or university/academic environment, and/or relevant experience working with children and families
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Attention to detail with a high regard for quality and a demonstrated ability to establish and meet timelines and deadlines
  • High degree of computer literacy and internet resourcefulness (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).
  • Previous experience of website design an asset
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and also collaboratively within a team structure
  • Professionalism, good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with families, children of all ages, and vulnerable populations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
  • Experience with social media for science communication, patient engagement, and knowledge translation an asset.
  • Experience using university and hospital libraries including experience with reference management software (e.g., EndNote or Mendeley) preferred
  • Experience in writing manuscripts, protocols and reports an asset
  • Experience of sleep research or sleep medicine preferred
