Why is this role important?


The Product Owner for our News & Sports Apps product team creates inclusive, engaging and accessible product experiences for people in Canada through our CBC News and CBC Sports apps.

Your work will be informed by clear, measurable key results and delivery expectations.

You will be responsible for managing and delivering the backlogs related to the CBC News and CBC Sports apps, including the Olympics app experience.

You will be responsible for coordinating the execution of work with developers and designers, taking strategic product direction from the News & Sports Apps Product Manager.


How you will make an impact:
As the Product Owner with the News & Sports App team, you will create user and business value through managing the product backlog and delivery


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring alignment to the overall product strategy through collaboration with the Product Manager.
  • Creating and managing the product backlog, epics and user stories to deliver the most value to CBC's priorities and objectives across the News & Sports Apps products.
  • Coordinating and facilitating scrum events (e.g. backlog refinement, planning).
  • Contributing to the News & Sports Apps product roadmap and prioritization.
  • Supporting planning and implementation planning for quarterly team objectives.
  • Establishing measurable product outcomes (product performance metrics) across apps and web, with a focus on alignment of metric values across products.
  • Overseeing and monitoring releases and validating quality with team.
  • Collaborating with the Agile Team Lead and other product teams and internal teams to manage dependencies, optimize our value delivery and minimize code/release conflicts.
  • Liaising with the Product Manager to define product priorities, decisions, resolutions.
  • Liaising with the Lead Developers and Solution Architect to align on technical priorities, decisions, resolutions.
  • Clearly articulating and plan for the execution of development and QA tasks.
  • Facilitating removing obstacles related to product priorities/goals/vision.
  • Communicating delivery progress.
  • Participating in identifying and solutioning product risks related to Value, Viability, Usability (with Product Design and Research) and Feasibility (with the Solutions Archite
