The development focus of the PTA role may shift between core activities of trust, POA and estate administration duties, and estate planning and settlement responsibilities according to the needs of the region from time to time.

The specific development focus for the incumbent is made clear in charter goals and development plans.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • The role includes administrative responsibilities for MDPT Estate and Trust Accounts.
Estate planning and Estate settlement responsibilities vary in accordance with the needs of the region accommodating the PTA position, and the incumbent's development:


  • Conducts client facing administration for a book of Trust and Power of Attorney accounts
  • Assists with Estate Administrative duties where needed, according to level of knowledge
  • Reviews invoices for payment and financial requests from beneficiaries
  • Identifies matters requiring the exercise of trustee/attorney discretion, and participates in the discretionary decision process by gathering relevant client information, making recommendations to Discretionary Committee, and participating in related discussions
  • Communicates regularly with MDPT Team Members both informally and formally, to ensure efficient and timely flow of information to all interested parties;
  • Participates in the settlement of Estate and POA accounts, with guidance from RTO and Home Office support (Tax, Legal, CentralAdmin)
  • Proactively manages relationships with family members, lay executors, liquidators, attorneys, beneficiaries, and other professionals(appraisers, accountants, lawyers etc.)
  • Arranges for appropriate safeguarding and valuation of nonfinancial assets, including real estate, vehicles, collections, household items and personal effects
  • Liaises and consults with assigned Trust Officer (TO/STO
  • Home Office) during the estate and trust administration with assistance and support of the MDPT Team (Regional Trust Administrator, Trust Administrator, Tax Specialist and ETA/RTO)
  • Prepares and sends initial estate documentation and related forms ensuring thoroughness, accuracy and consistency to Home Office to commence with administration activities
  • Identifies matters requiring the exercise of executor/trustee discretion, and participates in the discretionary decision process by gathering relevant client information, making recommendations to Discretionary Committee, as required
  • Participates in collaborative tax planning and execution of strategy with Trust Officer and Tax Specialist to minimize income tax of the estate, beneficiaries or donor/deceased
  • Follows up as necessary to obtain documentation, personal information, statutory declarations, distribution instructions, tax information, releases, approvals, to ensure administration is on schedule
  • Networks and promotes MDPT services to MDFS and clients to develop immediate estate and trust business against specific Estate &Trust asset targets.
  • Conducts regular review of client's Will and estate plan to ensure plan is current with client circumstances/needs as well as relevant legislation and tax regulations

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • University Degree or Equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in financial services environment, with direct client contact
  • Strong client relationship management experience
  • Commitment to complete the CETA 1: Foundations of estate and trust administration
  • Commitment to enroll in STEP, TEP or CETA program, according to development path
  • Working knowledge of legal documents (Wills, Trust Deeds and POA) is an asset
  • Knowledge of securities, trust systems and trust reporting is an asset
