About the Job:

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides:

• Nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
• Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers
• Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice
• Maintains and advances own clinical competence
• Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned

RPNs/RNs on the MH Psychiatric Unit work in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, SWs, OTs, psychology, as well as community mental health.

We are looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable and flexible mental health-trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn.

This is a relief part-time (0.59 FTE) opportunity until August 26, 2024, or the return of the incumbent. Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights; rotating from 07:30 to 19:30, 19:30 to 07:30 hours.

About this location/unit:

1South at RIH is an acute psychiatric unit that provides acute psychiatric care to individuals across the full spectrum of care; early psychosis, general psychiatric disorders, addictions and geriatric.

The unit has a multidisciplinary structured program consisting of individual psychotherapy, ECT, psychopharmacology, psycho-educational programs, group therapy, occupational therapy programs, recreational activities, family assessments and therapy, and behaviour therapy.

The programs are tailored to meet teach patient's individual needs. Length of stay varies from 1-3 weeks.

As this is a general unit we admit and work with every psychiatric presentation imaginable.
