The Technical Specialist works within the Division of Molecular Microbiology, Program of Microbiology, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at London Health Sciences Centre (University Hospital & Victoria Hospital) and St.

Joseph's Healthcare London. The role reports in a matrix relationship to the Division Head and Manager for the Molecular Microbiology Program.


Molecular Microbiology division members work with healthcare professionals to provide laboratory services to patients within London Health Sciences Centre and St.

Joseph's Health Care institutions as well as referrals from across Southwestern Ontario.

The Molecular Microbiology Specialist is responsible for providing scientific expertise within the Division including control and improvement of quality, methods development, establishing reference ranges, education of staff, medical students and residents, as well as generating research output.

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay:
$39.92 per hour - $49.89 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week


Qualifications:


  • Completion of a recognized Masters of Science Degree (MSc) in Molecular Biology or a related field required
  • Completion of a Doctorate (PhD) in Molecular Biology or related field considered an asset
  • Two (2) years recent training/work experience in molecular biology required
  • Experience working in a clinical diagnostic molecular laboratory considered an asset
  • Technical expertise in a broad range of molecular biology methodologies including, but not limited to, nucleic acid extraction methods, primer and probe design and realtimePCR required
  • Technical expertise and handson experience with nucleic acid sequencing modalities including, but not limited to, Sanger sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing required
  • Demonstrated experience in training staff and/or education/experience giving lectures, workshops, etc. required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, perform, interpret and troubleshoot molecular based assays required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, perform, interpret and troubleshoot molecular based assays required
  • Demonstrated ability to be selfdirected and adaptable to new technologies and processes required
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and make decisions based on knowledge/experience required
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize issues/workload and complete assigned tasks required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required
  • Strong work ethic required
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a focus on ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, from lay to expert, in molecular biology theory and practice required
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:


  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
