The Manager, Facilities is responsible for managing the physical operation and use of teaching and experimental science research laboratories, facilities, services, equipment, software, and technical resources in the Faculty of Applied Sciences across four buildings and multiple leased sites.

The Manager provides leadership to the professional and technical team who support the research, administration, and teaching activities in Applied Sciences.

The role is responsible for managing the facility infrastructure decisions for all Faculty spaces and problem-solving for the day-to-day operations of a large research scientific facility.

The Manager, Facilities oversees the procurement of major and minor capital equipment, monitors equipment inventory, and collaborates with Procurement Services.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of teaching and research standards, science laboratory requirements and configurations.
  • Excellent knowledge of common and specialized engineering and scientific laboratory equipment, instrumentation operations and procedures in modern engineering sciences and innovative computer science facilities.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer aided design and drafting programs, including AutoCAD.
  • Excellent knowledge of databases and relational database management (e.g. SQL server).
  • Excellent knowledge of building systems and design processes.
  • Good knowledge of related laboratory health and safety guidelines/regulations (University, Provincial, Federal), risk management assessment, laboratory hazards (e.g., chemicals/mechanical/electrical), and safety equipment/procedures.
  • Good knowledge of the principles of planning, design, and construction of institutional laboratory facilities.
  • Fully proficient in all aspects of computer science and engineering user environment.
  • Excellent management, financial and personnel management skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational ability, analytical reasoning, negotiation, and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral, written and presentation) skills.
  • Excellent soft skills in understanding diverse needs to communicate effectively and provide customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability in customer service.
  • Ability to manage large complex projects with multiple stakeholders and partners.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve programs associated with end user hardware, network connectivity, operating systems and software installation.
  • Ability to arrange suitable transportation to various work locations.
