We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Strategic Transit Data Analyst to join the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS), Transit Data Management Team.

As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in addressing data governance and quality challenges by employing cutting-edge techniques in data engineering, machine learning, advanced analytics, and statistics.

The primary focus will be on organizing and extracting insights from large, complex data sets across diverse platforms, contributing to data-driven solutions.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Lead the analysis of transit-related data sets, providing advanced statistical information to ETS Planning and Scheduling
  • Develop predictive, statistical, and behavioral models using supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques
  • Administer Google Sites for ETS and Development
  • Organize Big Data and develop models to identify trends and cause/effect relationships
  • Ensure high confidence interval calculations (95% CI) for ETS ridership through statistically reliable processes
  • Transform data into actionable insights to drive innovation and modernization
  • Analyze data to identify trends and patterns, providing information for positive impacts on operations
  • Implement robust data governance processes to ensure transit data integrity
  • Lead and develop junior Data Analyst(s) and collaborate with senior Analysts across ETS
  • Represent ETS as a resource at stakeholder meetings and presentations
  • Evaluate technologies and contribute to technology procurement projects
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • University Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Applied Statistics, Operations Research/Management Science, Transit Planning, or Management Information Systems. A Masters Degree in a relevant field would be an asset
  • 4 years of directly related working experience in advanced analytics, machine learning, statistical analysis, and data visualization
  • Project Management experience would be an asset
  • Experience in data warehouse management, cloud data services, and process automation would be an asset
  • Proficiency in relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server), cloud data platforms (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks), reporting tools (e.g., FME, MS Reporting Services, Crystal Report), SQL, Python, KNIME, R, Tableau, and Google Applications
  • Experience with Geographical Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS, FME, & Geo Media)
  • Strong project management skills and with the ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, consensus building, and influencing skills

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
