Come be a part of Canada's premier Science and Technology organization, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), as the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Management Office in Port Hope, Ontario implements Canada's largest low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) environmental remediation project, the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI).

The PHAI is a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste in Port Hope and Clarington. The project involves remediating contaminated sites and consolidating the wastes in an engineered mound in the community.

The PHAI Project has a very high public profile and is a top priority for the Government of Canada and the Port Hope area communities.


The
Project Lead, Waterfront Sites is accountable for the delivery of large-scale remediation and restoration projects, characterized as multi-year in duration, often involving substantial safety and regulatory requirements with many internal and external interactions, contracts requiring substantial negotiation of terms and conditions, having many work packages, resources, and interfaces to manage, and involving a significant financial commitment (more than $50 million).

What will you be doing

  • Project Delivery
  • Ensuring all designs and work plans incorporate safety, quality, health, and the environment.
  • Managing change in scope, schedule, costs, and impact to stakeholders against the project
baseline

  • Identifying project risks and barriers and the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Reporting and regularly interfacing with the senior management and clients regarding project
status updates and expectations.

  • Balancing and determining project priorities and the division of responsibilities.
  • Executing the contract and procurement strategy: understanding contracts requiring
substantial negotiation of terms and conditions, having many work packages, resources and
interfaces to manage.

  • Team Management
  • Leading a team of CNL staff, consultants and contractors in remediation of the LLRW on the site(s).
  • Building and sustaining a positive, inclusive, work environment.
  • Motivating team to deliver quality results on time and on budget.
  • Defining roles and responsibilities and setting goals. Managing performance of collective and individual team members, through objectives and feedback.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and instructing team members for success on project management, leadership, and business delivery.
  • Ensuring all team members use applicable safety equipment and adhere to safe work policies/practices, radiation protection policies/practices and any other CNL safety requirements as mandated by the organization.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills while clientand stakeholder facing with direct communication, ethics, and integrity.
  • Leading technical direction, stakeholder management, communication plan, resources (internal/external) management and execution of overall client initiative with an integrated team approach.
  • Frequently collaborating with the Communications & Stakeholder Relations team, providing and receiving input, participating in public relations events as needed.
  • Regulatory
  • Functional knowledge of federal and provincial regulatory requirements related to nuclear and remediation.
  • Understanding and implementing substantial safety and licensing requirements with many internal and external regulatory interactions.

What we are looking for:


  • Education: A degree or diploma from a college/university relevant to construction project management, civil, geotechnical, chemical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent, and a track record for leading large projects from definition, budgeting, design, through to construction.
  • Experience: Eight (8)+ years of progressively responsible project experience, preferably related to large construction and/or remediation projects.
  • Tools/systems knowledge: Requires experience with project management software, tools and practices used to plan, execute and control projects.
  • Experience in: Supervising the work of contractors, consultant engineers, and vendors in field work and construction oversight.
  • Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the U
