:The Shipping Supervisor will enhance our customer's experience by directing the integrity and flow of all products out of the facility.
The Shipping Supervisor will positively contribute to the company's overall finances by implementing cost effective transportation measures.POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the Shipping Supervisor are as follows:
Staff Management
- Oversees the shipping team including 3 office staff and 3 loaders. This includes recruiting, selecting, and training employees;
- Develops the staff by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees
- Ensures the operational requirements are met by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results; and
- Maintains cross training among the shipping team.
- Selects and manages carriers;
- Negotiates the best rates for all outgoing freight;
- Monitors carrier effectiveness and maintenance of vendor logs;
- Makes route determinations;
- Oversees all aspects of international shipments as pertaining to shipping and logistics;
- Prepares customs documents for shipment to the US and overseas destinations;
- Provides freight quotes for sales and customer service/sales support;
- Problem solves for freight lost or damaged in transit, prepares claims for reimbursements;
- Verifies invoices from carriers for payment approval;
- Examines contents and compares with manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy of outgoing shipment;
- Ensures all orders are shipped on schedule and addresses any late orders;
- Manages the RFP process for LTL and small package carriers; and
- Ensures freight is properly loaded in order to minimize damage to finished goods.
- Develops and implements shipping and logistics system improvements by analyzing work flows, staffing levels, and equipment;
- Investigates and proposes technology to improve overall operations; and
- Participates in various projects as directed by the Logistics Manager.
- Ensures compliance with company's Health & Safety standards and ISO processes;
- Ensures compliance with company and government regulations relating to material handling by understanding existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions;
- Ensures the compliance of updated work instructions / SOPs;
- Ensures all direct and indirect reports operate in a safe manner and in accordance to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLSET:
- Must have strong computer skills;
- Must be fluent in Microsoft Office suite;
- Must have strong professional business communication skills;
- Must have strong leadership and management skills;
- Must work effectively within a team environment;
- Must be capable of delivering results and positively impacting the company's financials; and
- Must have problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in a similar role;
- Degree or Diploma in a related discipline;
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, sea, and road; including relative costs and benefits.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
To support our entrepreneurial approach, our home office is a mix of open office and a 150,000 square foot manufacturing facility.
