TITLE:
YOUTH WORKER


RESPONSIBLE TO:

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR**
__:The Youth Worker's role is to implement CACD's projects and programs directly
. The Youth Worker will assist and supports BIPOC and other racialized children and youth who are part of a vulnerable and socially excluded segment of society in the GTA, particularly the Region of Peel.

The youth worker will be trained in anti-oppressive practices and are culturally competent to provide increased life skills, social networks, and safety using appropriate youth development models.

Specific support provided includes but is not limited to, the development of Youth-centered Plans to focus on behaviour management and social and life skills development.

In addition, the Youth Worker is expected to supervise program interns from the Colleges and Universities who have their placement with us.

The Youth worker must be capable of developing lesson plans and ensuring learning outcomes are established.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the Implementation and facilitation of our current projects and programs, ensuring that the needs of the participants are met
  • Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for children and youth, providing ageappropriate activities with adaptations as needed
  • Design, implement, and evaluate youthcentred individual plans to aid in transitioning youth to adulthood
  • Provides life and social skills training as per goals set out by the youth and other stakeholders
  • Supports youth to achieve their established goals using a strengthsbased approach
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment of program participants
  • Be able to mentor or counsel individual young people
  • Complete paperwork/ updates the endofday sessional report
  • Perform networking duties to foster strong community partnerships with key stakeholders and the community at large
- maintain a relationship with guidance counsellors at middle and high schools

  • Ensure that program performance objectives are observed and monitor programming to meet desired outcomes
  • Assist in the development of short
- and long-term plans for programs, monitor progress, assure adherence, and evaluate the performance

  • Assist with the maintenance of appropriate records; attendance, and statistics, and conduct evaluations of the program, including prepost surveys and interviews, and focus group sessions
  • Assist with the safety and security of the participants in the program
  • Assist in the training and orientation of volunteers, coop students, placements students, and project participants
  • Follow CACD policies, procedures, and mandates, including those which relate to health and safety
  • Maintain a professional relationship with peers, members, volunteers, parents, guidance counsellors and members of the public, and
  • Other tasks as may be assigned

Qualification, education, and skills:


  • Postsecondary education and work experience in Human Services, Community Development, Social Services, or related field with an emphasis on working with children and youth (e.g., ECE, Recreation & Leisure, CYW, SSW, etc.)
  • Two (2) years of experience working with youth engagement, community, and program development, and working successfully with community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience working with marginalized youth, their families, newcomers, and diverse youth populations living in underserved communities.
  • Minimum three years of program planning and facilitation experience with children and youth in a community setting
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in children's health and wellness, life skills, leadership, social issues, and cultural programming.
  • Flexible, creative, good team player and ability to work independently when required
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent is the use of social media for communication and marketing
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
  • Some knowledge of local community resources and services is an asset
  • Strong community outreach and public relations skills and ability to liaise with community partners and leaders
  • Able to facilitate and supervise virtually
  • Ability to work in a diverse cultural, social, economic, and racial community
  • Ability to work with children in a respectful and empowering manner
  • Ability to handle emergencies, crises, and demanding situations
  • Must have a current vulnerable sector criminal record check

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract


Salary:
$16.50-$25.00 per hour

Licence/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (preferred)
