DEPARTMENT: Graduate Programs, Goodman School of Business
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Temporary Part-time (September 1, 2024-April 30, 2025)
COMPENSATION: 150 hours nominally; Unit 3 ESL Instructor part-time contract positions are paid an hourly rate, as per the collective agreement.
JOB SUMMARY:

The Professional Masters Preparation Certificate Program - Business Stream (PMPB) requires instructors for PMPB 6F21 (Writing for Business Purposes) for Duration 1, full year academic courses. In addition to scheduled contact time with students, instructors are responsible for the preparation of weekly lesson plans, supplementary materials, tests, and assignments for their courses in accordance with assigned textbook and Goodman School of Business (GSB) curriculum. They are also responsible for the invigilation of the course final exam during the University exam period, as well as the marking and evaluation of student work, record keeping and attending meetings with program coordinator when required. Instructors are expected to work collaboratively with 6F21 teaching assistants who instruct corresponding course tutorials and to maintain frequent communication with program coordinator. Other course-specific duties as assigned by coordinator.
The current plan is to deliver this course in person in the Fall; however, an online section may be offered depending on student needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualifications for a new appointment shall be:
1. Master's level qualifications in related areas ( Business Communications, English, Applied Linguistics, Languages). Although a complete master's degree is preferred, candidates with a master's in progress may be considered for the position.
2. Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching essay-level writing to international students at the University level.
3. Successful record helping international students develop proficiency in their ability to write.
4. Must be knowledgeable about the writing process and business communication.
5. Proven understanding of current professional standards for business documents, such as letters, e-mails, memos, reports, proposals and business plans.
6. Previous successful experience teaching academic writing, APA citation style and academic integrity to international students.
7. Demonstrated interpersonal qualities that support international students' course-related needs. Ability to communicate effectively and provide constructive feedback. Solid organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to keep accurate records. Ability to work collaboratively with other instructors and program coordinator.
8. Advanced competence in the use of email, Sakai, Microsoft Office 365, Internet, Lifesize, Turnitin, Digital teaching platforms, and multi-media equipment.
9. Members who have previously taught PMPB 6F21 successfully in the past are considered qualified.
