Terra Archaeology is a leading provider of professional archaeological consulting services throughout British Columbia. Terra has approximately 50 full-time employees and numerous regular subcontractors. The company also has multiple partnership businesses that rely on our finance team.

Our work is conducted at the request of First Nations, federal and provincial government agencies and ministries, private sector corporations, and private landowners.

We have a proven track record of excellence and innovation in our field and are committed to delivering high-quality services to our clients and stakeholders.

As we expand our operations and explore new ventures, we are seeking a visionary CONTROLLER to join our leadership team and play a crucial role in shaping our financial future.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborating with various departments to create budgets and financial forecasts, analyzing variances, and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.
  • Internal Controls: Implementing and maintaining robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
  • Financial Analysis: Conducting financial analysis to support decisionmaking, evaluate business performance, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Treasury Management: Managing the company's cash flow, investments, and banking relationships.
  • Tax Planning: Collaborating with Terra's external accounting firm to develop tax strategies and ensure tax compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and lead the finance team (currently two bookkeepers and a clerk), fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field and CPA qualification. MBA preferred.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) as a Financial Controller or equivalent in a reputable organization.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills with a track record of driving business results.
  • Indepth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and BC/Canadian tax laws.
  • Excellent leadership and communication abilities, capable of influencing and inspiring others.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic financial planning and decision support.
  • Ability to thrive in a fastpaced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Previous experience with Indigenous businesses and/or organizations is a plus.
