Position Overview

Under the direction of the Office of the CEO, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the formulation and planning of campaigns; organizing stewards and members around BCNU issues; coordinating activities intended to inform the public, union members and others of BCNU policies, objectives, and functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists with the formulation and conducting outreach for campaign activities to member and stewards around BCNU issues.
  • Meets with groups of members and stewards identified by LROs or elected BCNU representatives in order to assist in the determination of whether a campaigns approach, whether workplace, regional or provincial, is appropriate and supported by members.
  • Performs walkabouts and/or facilitates group strategy sessions to meet with groups of members and stewards at worksites.
  • Assists the group in implementing and evaluating strategic action plans and ensures a record of the campaign work is maintained.
  • Acts as a communication link to the new stewards and members reporting pertinent information to and from the Union office.
  • Assumes the lead role in managing member relations at the worksite level.
  • Promotes brand visibility of the Union at the worksite level.
  • Coordinates activities intended to inform the general public, union members, and others of the union's policies, objectives and functions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of nursing policy issues and identifies issues relevant to BCNU members to be included in union communication programs and publications.
  • Basic understanding of the Collective Agreements and processes to address member issues.
  • Provides work direction to assigned clerical and administrative staff and participates in the efficient and cooperative use of resources and personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Travel and the availability to work beyond the regular work day, including weekends, will be required for this position.


Qualifications:


The successful applicant must have:


  • College or university education in an approved Social Sciences, Industrial Relations and/or Nursing program or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in a union leadership position and/or regularly participates in union activities.
  • Extensive and progressive experience years) in the coordination, planning and implementation of campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize advocacy campaigns and facilitate strategy sessions of interested groups and individuals.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and cultivate respectful relationships with members, elected officials, and colleagues.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills to explain information to small and large groups, including the ability to motivate and inspire members to develop into leaders and participate in key union programs.
  • Good knowledge of BCNU including its mission, vision, values and structure, the general environmental conditions of nursing, and a thorough understanding of and commitment to a professional union philosophy.
  • A willingness to travel throughout the province and a valid driver's license.
