Description

Friends of Ruby (FoR) is dedicated to the journey and well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, aged 16-29 through mental health services, social services, and housing. FoR offers Youth Mental Health services, a Youth Drop-In Centre, and a Transitional Home. The Centre provides access to barrier-free counselling and therapeutic groups, case management and a drop-in space with hot meals, community, and comprehensive programming. The Home provides transitional and emergency housing, as well as mental health and life-skills to support youth moving towards independent living.

Position Summary


Under the direction of the Director of Mental Health & Youth Services, the 2SLGBTQIA+ Mental Health & Youth Services Advisor will provide expert insight on standards of care, Mental Health trends and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth needs, identify opportunities and gaps that can be addressed through new programs, partnerships, and services, and maintain key relationships within the sector to advance Friends of Ruby strategic goals.


The position plays an integral role in connecting with the Mental Health Sector, gaining insights through active participation and research, and reporting to the leadership team to support effective decision making in connection with Friends of Ruby's strategic goals.

It also plays an essential role in developing evidence-based solutions to meet trends, opportunities, gaps and youth needs.


Duties and Responsibilities


Gaining expert insight into Mental Health trends impacting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, understanding needs, establishing key relationships and participating in meaningful discussions to report on strategic opportunities to leadership and develop solutions through programs and services.


  • Mental Health Analysis & Strategy_
  • Gain expert insight into Mental Health trends and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth needs from existing research, consultations with stakeholders, participation in relevant tables and networks, and others.
  • Write regular and userfriendly summaries, briefings, reports, presentations to present the leadership team and the Board with insights to support strategic decision making.
  • Analyses opportunities and identify gaps in integrated programs and services for Friends of Ruby related to youth mental health and propose new solutions or the revision of existing activities.
  • Develop integrated mental health programs and services in collaboration with Youth Services & Housing, writing comprehensive charters and/or project plans, that incorporate gained insights and evidence, high quality and innovative solutions to address opportunities and gaps, and a clear understanding of resources needed.
  • Support fund and resource acquisition by collaborating with Fund Development in the writing of proposals to support new and existing mental health programs.
  • Mental Health Sector Engagement & Mobilization_
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders in the Mental Health Sector and maintain constant and collaborative relationships to facilitate the development of partnerships for programs and services.
  • Plan, implement and manage consultations and other forms of stakeholder engagement to inform the development of programs and services.
  • Engage with leadership and team members to identify Friends of Ruby's expertise and best practices in mental health support to 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, and structure ways in which to share these with relevant stakeholders (e.g., community organizations, networks, government agencies).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Mental Health & Youth Services.
