Your Opportunity:


The Unit Clerk on Unit 22, Inpatient Psychiatry, serves as the point of first contact in matters concerning the efficient administration of the Unit.

All disciplines rely on the Unit Clerk's knowledge of patient activities and unit operations.

The Unit Clerk plays a key role in helping to foster a team environment on the unit by facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information.


Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments.

You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Intermediate computer skills required including the use of Microsoft Office. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology. Proven flexibility, conflict management and dependability. Demonstrated ability to function effectively and collaboratively within a patient and family centered healthcare team. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients, visitors and staff. Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English. Able to request and accept direction as required. Able to understand and relate to patients in a caring and respectful manner.

Ability to work in an active patient care area and adapt to frequent interruptions in activities while maintaining a calm and pleasant attitude.

Effective organization and time management skills.


Physical abilities:

prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, repetitive movements are involved in the day-to-day work activities, and the ability to lift or move up to 10 lbs.


Preferred Qualifications:

Recent Unit Clerk experience in an acute care or inpatient rehabilitation setting.
