Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.


Summary of responsibilities:


Reporting to the Supervisor of Residential Services, the Residential Addiction Counsellor will be working within CCH operated residential facilities and is responsible for observing and managing behaviours as well as identifying potential mental health concerns for further follow-up.

Interactions with clients are evidence-based and incorporate a multidisciplinary approach. The counsellor is responsible for ensuring thorough documentation for the purposes of clinical management and risk reduction. The counsellor works with other professionals to ensure appropriate on-going treatment and enhancement of life skills.


Requirements of the job:


  • 2year college diploma in a social servicerelated field
  • 2 years' experience in addiction and mental health counselling
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Valid first aid and CPR
  • Current suicide intervention training
  • Basic cooking and cleaning skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Good interpersonal, organization and presentation skills
  • Strong team orientation
  • Knowledge of the various treatment modalities specific to addictions and mental health
  • Nonjudgmental approach to clients
  • Ability to work independently
  • Motivational interviewing skills
  • Demonstrate regular, punctual attendance
  • Functional proficiency in English (oral and written) and oral French

Assets:

  • Certification in Addiction Therapy/counselling
  • Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
  • Familiarity with the Health Equity Impact Assessment and Safewards Model and Trauma Informed Care
  • Current with CCH Mandatory Training including Caregivers as Partner and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Working Knowledge of Harm Reduction Strategies inclusive of Safe Medication Practices, Naloxone Administration, Opiate Agonist Therapy
