Primary Duties:
1)Youth engagement:
- Maintain and develop diverse resources that ensure equity and inclusive programming practices.
- Facilitate personal, social, and educational growth of the group to help them reach their full potential, while fostering group cohesion
2) Develop resources and support, and guide tutoring program:
- Support the development of tutoring curriculum/resources for high school students.
- Develop diverse resources that address specific learning styles, abilities, and needs.
- Support youth to fully engage in tutoring supports available.
3) Group facilitation:
- Develop and maintain program structures, routines, and expectations.
- Organize guest speakers, special events and field trips for Pathways students and develop and maintain program partnerships.
4) Support volunteer tutors:
- Support and guide volunteers to engage with youth.
- Develop, model, and monitor the volunteer tutors' role and techniques.
- Facilitate and support volunteers during programming and maintain regular communication with volunteers between programming sessions.
- Monitor student engagement and volunteer/student relationships and provide redirection and support as needed to ensure students' needs are being met.
5) Liaise with program staff
- Meet regularly with staff and/or maintain weekly communication process to work together on strategies for improving or strengthening participation in mentoring.
- Report on students' strengths, needs and challenges to appropriate staff members.
Dimensions of Work
- The primary interface is directly with youth and volunteers in the Pathways program.
- Direct reporting relationship to program Supervisor
- Coordination and sharing information with relevant program, school, and community staff.
Work Conditions
- Travel between multiple sites in the community
Hours - late afternoons and evenings
Academic and Job Experience Required:
B.A. or B.Ed. or relevant bachelor's degree (Social Work, Child, and Youth Care, etc.) and/or a combination of relevant post-secondary education and/or a minimum of 2 years' experience in youth-specific group facilitation and mentoring culturally diverse groups
Basic Requirements:
- Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector.
- Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid 1
- Valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate will be an asset.
Desired Requirements:
- Experience working in programs supporting the educational success of youth.
- Experience and/or knowledge of working with the public school system (grade 7 12)
- Specific training and/or experience with youth with additional learning needs or new language learners
- Strong experience in designing academic programming within a communitydriven environment.
- Experience working with youth and families in the DTES/Vancouver/Strathcona neighbourhoods.
- Experience with conflict resolution, mediation, leadership development, and psychosocial support
- Experience working with volunteers, including training, and developing resources.
- Experience facilitation of groups
- Knowledge of community and social services
- Understanding of impact of racism and oppression
- Understanding of impact of settlement journey

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Pathways Volunteer Coordinator
Salary Range:
$27.81/hour - $29.00/hour, plus benefit package (100% employer-paid)
