Our position:


Non-Commercial Compliance


The Non-Commercial Compliance team leads delivery of the Compliance programme across all non-commercial units at AZ, which includes Global Operations, R&D and enabling functions such as HR and Finance.

The team is ambitious, agile and collaborative with personnel located across the globe. We now have an exciting new opportunity for an 'Ethics & Compliance Manager' within our team in Mississauga.


As an 'Ethics & Compliance Manager' you will partner with a variety of business units across the global organisation providing advice to embed a culture of ethics and integrity.

You will also provide direction for compliance initiatives, training campaigns, and assist with individual compliance investigations and risk assessment activities.

We need you to strategically contribute to the direction of AZ's Compliance function.

This role is incredibly varied and provides global leadership opportunities across a broad range of fields and risk areas.

For example, in a single day you may be asked for advice upon:

payment to participants in clinical research, sponsorships and contributions, how to avoid a potential conflict of interest, or, whether a particular proposal could give rise to an off-label promotion risk.


Typical accountabilities:


  • You will interact with leaders and management teams across different levels of the organization to provide advice, share takeaways and influence decisionmaking, including constructive challenge where needed;
  • You will implement and maintain an effective compliance programme by empowering colleagues in the business to tackle critical challenges and make sustainable choices that benefit patients;
  • You will help translate questions and issues into concrete improvements in policies and procedures to simplify ways of working, strengthen our compliance programme and sustain an ethical culture;
  • You will establish diverse networks across the R&D business and within support functions (e.g., HR, Legal, IT, Internal Audit, Media Relations) and act as an ambassador for our Code of Ethics;
  • You will liaise with the Compliance Assurance Team in monitoring the effectiveness of the local compliance framework and business continuity and risk mitigation controls;
  • You will identify and focus effort on prioritised compliance risk areas across the business;
  • Other responsibilities as required.

To be successful in this role we think the following experience is essential:
Ideally, you will have practical experience in a Compliance role.

However, you will work closely with Senior Compliance Professionals in the initial stages of your career within Compliance at AstraZeneca.

Therefore, if you have broad experience in the pharmaceutical industry, all the right skills and abilities and a clear desire to learn Compliance at AstraZeneca we will still be interested to know more about you.


  • Academic degree required. Advance degree preferred (e.g., JD, MBA, PhD etc.);
  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry required and hence a good understanding of the compliance risks in at least one area/specialty: R&D, Manufacturing and/or Enabling Units;
  • Demonstrated experience advising in applicable risk areas (e.g., bribery & corruption, healthcare fraud, data privacy, regulations around the promotion of biopharmaceuticals and scientific exchange, bioethics, etc.);
  • Proactive business partner approach and proven ability to establish credibility and trust across the different business units;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; be able to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships across several countries (virtual interactions);
  • Excellent analytical, written, oral, and listening communication skills in English;
  • Pragmatic and solutionfocused outlook with a strong desire to find simple solutions to complex challenges;
