The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province.

The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis and operates the retail brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

In Human Resources (HR), we support a large, distributed organization with a range of services from our Talent & Compensation, Organizational Development & Change, Employee Relations and Investigations, and Organizational Health and Safety teams.

About this role:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety Programs and Services, the Safety Advisor is responsible for providing knowledgeable expertise to the organization and for facilitating the development and implementation of effective safety and injury prevention programs.

The Safety Advisor ensures that the LDB is compliant with the Workers Compensation Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all other relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures including the Collective Agreement.


This role functions in a fast paced, challenging environment that typically involves multiple competing priorities that require attention and resolution.

The Safety Advisor is an integral leadership role in the organization that requires strong consulting skills including the ability to transfer knowledge and to develop and maintain ongoing, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.


Special requirements and working conditions include the ability to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia, to possess a valid British Columbia driver's license, and be reasonably available after hours to respond to emergency health and safety matters, as required.

A successful completion of a criminal record check is required.

Position requirements:


Education and Experience:


  • Degree, diploma or certificate in occupational health, occupational hygiene, or a related discipline with a minimum of two (2) years recent, related experience*.
OR

  • Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent certificate and a minimum of four (4) years of recent, related experience*.
  • Recent, related experience must have occurred in the last 6 years and must include the following:
  • Experience with safety program and policy development.
  • Experience working in or with a unionized organization.
  • Experience in delivering trainings, including presentations to large groups and facilitation of small classes.
