Reporting to the Executive Director, People, Quality & Strategy, the Director, Quality, Safety and Strategy plays a crucial role in shaping the direction of our hospitals' planning, policy and program development as well as the advancement of quality improvement and safe work and care environments.

The Director works closely with clinical and administrative leaders to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care with key accountabilities for supporting continuous quality improvement, positive overall patient experience, effective risk management, robust health and safety practices, and sound corporate policy, ethics and planning practices.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Expert knowledge of health care, hospital systems, medical profession/disciplines and broader public sector management practices;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality and safety professional practices, procedures and regulations and other professional practice standards, codes, policies, procedures, and best practices;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment strategies, human resources/employee relations practices, performance management processes, and administration/interpretation of employment and service contracts;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance/improvement principles and practices, risk management processes and considerations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety, including workplace regulations and support services as well as patientfocused supports such as infection prevention and control;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, coaching and negotiation skills (both verbal and written)
  • Intermediate to expert quality improvement and change management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, manage and implement evidencebased, peoplefocused quality assurance and improvement initiatives;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of strategies and plans, including information gathering, analysis and goalsetting
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a highlydynamic, multidisciplinary, and teambased environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to leadership and professional development;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the capability of providing leadership to a diverse team and within varying power dynamics/differentials and interacting comfortably with senior leaders; and
  • Demonstrated ability to be politically astute, selfaware and selfmanaged; and adapt readily to a changing environment and respond with initiative.


The successful applicant will have a minimum of 8 to 10 years demonstrated experience in a health-related role with a proven track record in clinical operations, quality assurance and/or safety-related initiatives and 5 years leadership experience, preferably in progressively more responsible program related leadership position(s) in complex environments.

Certificate or certification in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean) and/or safety management, current registration with recognized regulatory/professional equivalent organization and Yukon First Nations 101 (or equivalent) as well as any additional cultural safety related education is desired.
