Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) District is the largest interconnected event complex in Canada and is the centre of sport, business, and entertainment for the community. REAL is a not-for-profit municipal corporation, governed by a Board of Directors, that acts as a steward of all assets on the 100-acre property which is owned by the City of Regina. Our history is long standing and began in 1884 when an enthusiastic group of people organized Regina's first ever agricultural fair.

THE OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU
The Special Events Security Officer is responsible for ensuring crowd control at events, enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations. Ensuring the personal safety of staff, visitors, and property. Maintains security and safety for assigned areas. Maintains working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements.


REAL has 4 Part-time Opportunities Available:


  • Monday & Tuesday, 8:00am4:00pm
  • Saturday & Sunday, 4:00pm12:00am (midnight)
  • Monday & Tuesday, 4:00pm12:00am (midnight)
  • Saturday & Sunday, 8:00am4:00pm

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provides crowd control, proactive crown management and monitoring for any potential crown control issues and concerns.
  • Screening patrons during ingress using walkthrough metal detectors, bag searches, and hand wanding techniques
  • Performing safety and emergency procedures and ensuring security duties are carried out in compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws and REAL policies and procedures.
  • Responds to incidents by:
  • Responds to incidents, and manages CSSS response to emergency situations, criminal activity, and other major events. Makes immediate and appropriate decisions to prevent or minimize personal injury and/or damage to personal and public property.
  • Acts as an onscene Incident Commander for all emergencies, demonstrations, large protests, and events on campus, working in a unified command capacity with local police, fire, and emergency health services agencies. Provides information and recommendations to the Command Centre.
  • Notifying Command Centre of all incidents.
  • Maintaining detailed reporting on all events and proper incident reporting

Performs patrolling of areas and security checks by:

  • Securing premises and personnel by patrolling property; access points; permitting entry. Obtaining help by sounding alarms.
  • Preventing losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers.
  • Controlling access to buildings and protecting employees, guests, and the public
  • Providing excellent customer service to guests, employees, and the public by helping where needed, finding balance, and neutralizing high stress situations.
  • Performs other duties on an as and when required basis.

WHAT IT TAKES

  • Grade 12 education or GED is preferred.
  • Must have valid Serve-ItRight (SIRs) certification.
  • Must be at least Nineteen (19) years of age.
  • Formal training and/or work experience in the field of security services or crowd control is preferred.
  • Physical ability to handle confrontational/violent/abusive/intoxicated situations.
  • Valid Driver's License must be maintained
  • Able to walk/stand for prolonged periods is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in public relations.
  • Excellent decisionmaking skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others
  • Ability to work well in a fastpaced environment, and adapt to change
  • This position is an inscope position under the RWDSU Collective Agreement.
