Job Summary

To provide French translation, proof-reading, and editing services, as well as respond to translation related enquiries from SSHRC staff. The incumbent may also be involved in the preparation of communications materials in French for a variety of media.

Education

Graduation from a recognized university, with a specialization in translation/editing, OR a degree in French language literature or linguistics combined with significant experience in a translator position

Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards

Experience

Experience in translation, editing, proof-reading a variety of texts in the areas of social sciences and humanities research, public administration, and marketing.

Experience in writing and preparing external communications products and materials.
Experience in handling external requests for information.

Knowledge

Excellent knowledge of the English and French language, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, and other aspects of style.
Excellent knowledge of principles and techniques of translation, editing and proof-reading.
Knowledge of the terminology used in social sciences and humanities research and public administration.
Knowledge of the principles of terminology and lexicography.
Knowledge of basic communications principles, techniques and processes.
Knowledge and understanding of Canada's Official Languages Act.
Excellent knowledge of principles of writing for the Web.
Some knowledge of SSHRC's mandate, policies and programs.
