Job Summary
Free Play for Kids is searching for the city's best hockey coaches for paid positions.

If you're a top level coach or a top level player looking to grow into a coaching role, we want you.


As one of our sport coaches, you will work under the guidance of our technical director to follow practice plans that deliver solid, fun sessions on the fundamentals of hockey and showcase you as a great leader and mentor.


Education & Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Education, Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Kinesiology Sport and Rec or equivalent from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • Experience coaching youth sport teams and / or extensive playing experience.
  • Valid certifications in coaching hockey, such as Development 1, Coach 1 / Coach 2, etc.
  • Representative of the community that Free Play serves.
  • Understanding the power of sport as a tool for social good.
  • Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training.
  • Valid Driver's Licence with no at fault accidents and able to help transport kids using provided vehicles if needed.
  • Experience with technology such as Google Meet, Zoom and Connecteam app is considered an asset.
  • Clear up to date criminal and vulnerable sector check.

Responsibilities

  • Working with youth between the ages of 812 ("Free Play Year Round" program) and ages "Free Play Pathway to Leadership" program) by facilitating online and in person programming in collaboration with Free Play Youth Leaders and other team members.
  • Leading practices, games, drills and activities with the ultimate goal of keeping kids focused in sessions, having fun and being safe.
  • Meeting Pathway to Leadership program participants at school and supervising youth as they are transported by bus from school to program venue.
  • Training Pathway to Leadership youth to play, referee and coach within the sport of hockey.
  • Relating to youth from diverse communities and acting as a mentor and role model for kids in the program.
  • Leading engaging and interactive online coaching sessions through various channels (social media, website, videoconferencing, etc.) to teach kids basic drills and activities.
  • Conducting formal and informal skills assessments for program participants.
  • Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.
  • As an ambassador of Free Play, modeling key organization values through interactions with all internal and external partners and team members.
  • This position will evolve over time, based on initiatives and objectives identified in Free Play's strategic plan and vision.
  • In addition to normal duties, from time to time there may be work assignments arising from special events, special projects, or overall program initiatives.

Schedule & Position Conditions

  • Hours of work are determined by program schedule and are typically Monday to Wednesday & Friday between 3:00pm to 6:00pm, Thursday 1:00pm to 6:00pm in person after school. Some additional shifts may be available during school hours.
  • Pay is based on educational background, experience and certifications.

Part-time hours: 15 per week


Salary:
$17.00-$20.00 per hour
