Easter Seals Alberta's McQueen Home is located in Edmonton, AB. It is a specialized nine-bedroom home for physically disabled adults who require physical and mental health support. Due to their high medical needs, these individuals would be unable to live independently without support.

They are able to connect and actively participate in their community, including volunteering, attending courses, working part-time, and spending time with family and friends.

Like any home, residents dine together, watch hockey, play board games, provide input on their home, and enjoy many summer barbecues.


Position:


We are looking for a compassionate, dynamic individuals to join our team as a Health Care Aide for the McQueen Residence.

This position is shift work in a fast-paced environment and requires staff to be flexible. As a Health Care Aide, you will be frequently walking, lifting, and bending. This position does require our Health Care Aides to be on their feet for majority of their shift.


Hours:

Full time evening position - 3:30pm - 11pm which includes weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays. Must be able to start February 1. Orientation will be day shift Monday - Friday.


Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the LPN, Health Care Aides are responsible for

  • Heavy care need on feet most of the day
  • Daily living needs, feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming
  • Cleaning
  • Laundry
  • Some cooking
  • Daily activity support

Qualifications:

Â- Health care aide certificate from Alberta or equivalent, be registered in the health care aide directory

Â- Previous experience working with people with disabilities considered an asset

Â- Ability to work with difficult behaviors and developmental delays

Â- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Â- Willingness to take initiative and go the extra mile


Job Requirements:

Â- Must have up-to-date vaccinations including COVID-19 ( two doses), TB, Annual flu vaccination, record of vaccinations

Â- Clear Criminal Record check including Vulnerable Sector check

Â- COVID-19 considerations: to keep our staff as safe as possible we are providing masks, gloves and hand sanitizer

Â- Compassionate and caring

Â- Excellent verbal and written English is necessary for this role

Â- Ability to safely lift up to 50lbs

  • Reliable transportation
  • Must have proficient English skills verbal and written
  • HCA certification
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Experience working with persons with adults disability such Cerebral palsy, MS, Spina Bifida, Brain Injury, Mental Health, Developmental Delays
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to handle emergency situations
