    Department Manager– Transportation Engineering

    Ontario

    Our client, a multi-discipline firm providing engineering services in Peterborough and throughout Ontario, is in search of a Department Manager specializing in Transportation Engineering. The ideal candidate should possess a background in transportation projects and demonstrate strong leadership qualities to guide and mentor a transportation team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with the President and Senior Management Team to develop policies, strategic plans, and implement corporate initiatives.
    • Manage the annual department budget and staffing requirements.
    • Lead the preparation and coordination of winning proposals for transportation services.
    • Participate in recruitment activities, including promotions and hiring processes.
    • Provide guidance, training, performance evaluations, professional development, and mentorship to the transportation engineering team.
    • Offer technical support for highway assessment and design, including technical reporting, drawings, and specifications.
    • Direct engineers and designers to enhance team capabilities and technical expertise, ensuring high-quality work delivery.
    • Promote Health & Safety policies and practices within the Transportation Engineering team.
    • Oversee client relationships to meet their needs and expectations.
    • Coordinate interdepartmental relationships and projects.
    • Stay updated on relevant government regulations regarding transportation.
    • Act as a Senior Engineer/Project Manager on transportation department projects.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a minimum of 10 years of Transportation experience, including management responsibilities.
    • Hold a license as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or be eligible for licensure within six months of hiring.
    • Preferably possess design experience with MTO and qualifications for RAQS Highway Engineering Categories.
    • Dedication to quality improvement and adherence to clients' core values, along with a proven track record in staff and project team management.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with employees, government entities, agencies, and contractors.
    • Must have or be eligible for an Ontario G class driver's license.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a client base, positioning oneself as a transportation expert in the market.
