About Us:
The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University is a public, urban medical and dental school to serve the people of Southwestern Ontario.
At Schulich Dentistry, we prepare qualified graduates to provide dental care as well as generate knowledge through clinical research, basic science research and other scholarly activity.
We also provide oral health care to the public through our on-site clinics and our community outreach programs, specifically, Dental Outreach Community Service (DOCS) and Oral Health, Total Health.
Responsibilities:
- The Dental Assistant will work independently to achieve efficient and effective daytoday operations within the clinic, and will provide support to faculty, students, patients, and other visitors to the clinic. The incumbent will assist with a variety of functions including preparation, set up, clean up, chairside assistance, taking xrays, disinfection, and monitoring sterilization equipment. The Dental Assistant will assist with maintaining a positive learning environment and provide information and guidance to students on clinic administration, and ensure policies and procedures are adhered to.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Certified Dental Assistant
- Level 2 Certification with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association
Experience:
- 1 year of experience in clinical dental assisting, preferably in an academic setting
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- HARP (Health and Radiation Protection) Certification, WHMIS, CPR, and First Aid Training
- Broad knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, materials and infection control, and Ontario Dental Association Codes
- Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
- Possess a reputation for resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
- Ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
