Duties and Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Director, Paul Menton Centre (PMC), the primary duties of the Exam Accommodations Support Coordinator is to coordinate logistics for exam accommodations for students with Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), medical, psychiatric, and other disabilities.

The incumbent will liaise between PMC Disabilities Coordinators and staff in the McIntyre Exam Centre (MEC) to ensure exam accommodation requirements are met.

The Exam Accommodations Support Coordinator will communicate with and advise faculty, support staff, and others in the broader community concerning the exam accommodation process at Carleton University.

The incumbent will promote awareness of the needs of students with disabilities and maintain a comprehensive familiarity with university programs and policies.

The Exam Accommodations Support Coordinator will support other PMC services and perform other duties as required.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of modern office/business practice and technology, general knowledge of university organization and procedures, and thorough knowledge of examination regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to assist with the technical needs of students accessing various adaptive software systems, including JAWS, Kurzweil, Read & Write, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and others.
  • Understanding of Human Rights Legislation, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and institutional obligations in the postsecondary setting.
  • Indepth problemsolving and forwardthinking skills to anticipate complex problems with no definitive answer, and adapt individual solutions.
  • Maintain and develop positive working relationships, resolve misunderstandings or conflicts.
  • Fulfill unique needs of student clientele, provide quality service while upholding university policy and essential requirements of a degree or course.
  • Possess a combination of professionalism, empathy, knowledge of various disabilities, interpersonal skills, and administrative ability.
  • Ability to assist with exam accommodation scheduling and complexities surrounding them, including a professional relationship with faculty.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Three-year undergraduate degree or college diploma.
  • Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience at a college or university, including a minimum of two years of providing support services to persons representing all disability groups. Proficiency with exam accommodations and experience working with MEC is an asset.
