Job Number:49077**Want to spend the summer working outside while helping to maintain and beautify Cemetery parkland spaces? The City of Edmonton houses 7 municipal cemeteries with peaceful pathways, heritage monuments, commemorative markers and glorious seasonal flora and fauna and resides within the River Valley and Horticultural Facilities Section. Be part of a team of Labourer I's, where you would be completing grass cutting with various machinery, horticultural tasks such as planting and maintaining flowers/shrub beds, vegetation management, general facility servicing, sanitation, monument restoration, and may be required to provide assistance with interment services.

- Operate ride-on mowers
- Operate small power equipment such as: push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, and small rototillers
- Use tools such as shovels, rakes, and small hand tools
- Plant and maintain annual flowers and shrubs
- Move and transport materials and equipment, possibly with the use of a trailer
- Load and unload materials from trucks
- Respond to public inquiries
- Assist coworkers and perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
- Ability to work independently and perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions and in a safe manner
- Ability to understand and perform verbal and written instructions
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position

Assets:
- Experience working at a cemetery, public park or landscaping environment
- Equipment certification or experience or working knowledge of various equipment, and hand tools including ztrak style rideon mowers, trimmers, skid steers, twoton trucks, and cement mixers
- Previous customer service experience in a field operations setting
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates
_ Up to 15 temporary full-time positions for up to 6 months with a possibility of extension for up to 11 months_
Note:
Individuals unable to work the entire 2024 season may be considered for the Relief Labourer I position at a lower salary grade.
Relief Labourers may work up to a maximum of 18 weeks in duration between April 15, 2024 and September 15, 2024Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Providing coverage Monday-Friday. Primary Schedule 7:00-3:00pm / 8:00-4:00pm. Schedule and shifts may change to support operational needs
