Job Summary


Reporting to the Site Supervisor in this contracted role, you will provide support for the Food Bank, Meal Program and other programs and objectives of the Reach Out Centre.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Work under the direction of the site supervisor in both the warehouse and commercial kitchen settings at 61 Nickel Street
  • Receive, sort, count, weigh, label, pack and unpack, portion dry goods, qualitychecking and distributing donations ( pulling, pushing, lifting, tracking, receiving of donations)
  • Load, unload and move products and materials by hand
  • Maintain inventory and assist in managing the flow and distribution of food/ donations through the programs
  • Perform tasks related to upkeep of equipment, grounds and facilities sweeping, mopping, cleaning and general site maintenance. Report to supervisor with any repairs needed.
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing, record keeping, inventory tracking, timesheets and inventory records
  • Attend/ participate in fundraising Meal Program/Food Bank activities and community events during evenings and or/weekends when required
  • Answer phone calls and provide direction/ support and referrals to those seeking information about Port Cares services
  • Provide support in the commercial kitchen assisting with food preparation, portioning, cleaning and maintaining the commercial kitchen and dining hall
  • Clean and maintain commercial kitchen equipment and appliances
  • Cleaning of food preparation & serving areas, assist with distribution of community meals, dishwashing and sanitizing kitchen
  • Work collaboratively with Port Cares team members, students, clients and volunteers.
  • Perform regular inspections of the food and supplies storage area ensuring all areas are stocked and maintained
  • Report all health and safety concerns to site supervisor
  • Assist with laundry, sweeping, mopping, waste management and all other duties required
  • Ensure that all work is completed in a safe and timely manner
  • Respect and follow all Port Cares policies and procedures

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • 35 years of experience preferably in warehouse/ kitchen setting is an asset
  • Secondary school diploma

Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally and provide a
clear driver's abstract:


  • Current Fork Life Certificate and
    Safe Food Handling Certificate is a major asset.
  • Ability to work in a team setting with staff and volunteers
  • Selfmanaged, demonstrates initiative and ability to multitask
  • Must be able to lift approximately
    50 lbs as well as push, pull, bend, carry, stand for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to handle minor tools and machinery where applicable
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated responsibility, maturity and leadership abilities
  • Understand the importance of proper inventory handling (Example: FIFO)
  • Nonjudgmental/respect and sensitivity for individual cultural, educational and social uniqueness and diversity
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality for all community members accessing services from Port Cares
  • Technical aptitude, mechanically inclined with good manual dexterity and handeye coordination
  • Willingness to work flexible hours with fundraising events
  • Willingness to perform all other duties as required

From $17.89 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Port Colborne, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
