PURPOSE OF POSITION:


The purpose of this position is to increase access to essential services (local only) by driving on-reserve TteS band members to and from medical appointments, employment agencies and other essential services.

The Essential Service Driver is not to replace transportation provided by families, and/or medical professionals; but to enhance the life of the on-reserve TteS members who would otherwise not have access to essential services due to a lack of public transit.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Provides services that enable clients to improve their quality of life in accordance with the approved practices, policies, standards and guidelines. (95%)

  • TteS band member clients (includes ESD's family) phone the Community Health Representative to schedule an appointment for their ride, Essential Service Driver (ESD) will take a copy of their schedule each morning and Community Health Representative will provide updates as needed.
  • Transport band members to scheduled appointments at various locations/offices and organizations, as well as to food bank, light shopping errands, and other essential services they may require.
  • Priority will be given to medically required appointments, such as doctor's and specialist appointments, nonemergency hospital transport and dental appointments.
  • ESD is required to have each client sign the ESD daily log form and to keep accurate records.
  • Observe and inform Community Health Representative of any obvious changes in client's health and safety conditions.
  • Attends Community Services Department staff meetings as directed.
  • Participate in training programs as directed by the Community Health Representative.
  • Maintain a clean driver's abstract, keep a daily logbook (per CVP regs) and perform cleaning/maintenance on TteS fleet vehicle(s) as directed and in accordance with the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the TteS.
  • Pickup and delivery of medical equipment and/or prescriptions for service provider and clients.

5% Other related duties as necessary.

  • Assists with the various departmental social functions such as picnics, parties at the direction of the Community Services Manager.

Professional Certification, Education and Experience:


  • Completion of Grade 12 an asset
  • Minimum of two (2) years' work experience in a customer service or related field.
  • Must have a current valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Class 4 Driver's License.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a First Aid certificate.
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check
  • Vulnerable Sector.
  • Experience/training working with Elders and/or infirm persons within a First Nation community is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Good communication skills.
  • Clean driver's abstract and capacity to manage people and their safety in a closed vehicle.
  • Ability to prioritize schedule.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Strong tact and diplomacy.
  • Must have strong teamwork and cooperation, service orientation and problem solving and judgement skills.
  • Ability to work in multicultural settings.

HOURS OF WORK:
Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.


PAY GRADE:
Starting at $20.08 to $22.18/hour depending on education & experience.
