As the Supervisor, Paratransit Operations, you will use your well-developed leadership and managerial capabilities to oversee the safe, efficient and effective delivery of paratransit operations in ETS, including the leadership of an operations team.

  • Provide leadership to Operations Supervisors, Methods Analyst, and Operations Clerk. Directly responsible for hiring, on-boarding, training, performance management and support for the team, including performance management for the team of DATS bus operators
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to translate strategies into action plans to enhance communication, solve problems creatively, promote integration and focus on teamwork and collaboration within a respectful workplace
  • Manage the meeting of daily operational service coverage for the City of Edmonton paratransit buses to meet service planning requirements
  • Provide direction and establish standards for service delivery to ensure alignment of contracted service with inhouse service
  • Participate in the development of policies, and develop and implement work procedures for paratransit operations
  • Foster a customerfocused work culture that provides recognition, support, training and development, while promoting health, safety and wellness in the workplace
  • Manage the investigation and resolution of paratransit safetyrelated concerns and issues. Provide leadership for Occupational Health & Safety, proactively identifying and removing/resolving hazards to ensure a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors. Monitor, assess, and resolve safety hazards related to client equipment and residential locations
  • Ensure employees are scheduled as required to meet the service obligations of DATS, including managing attendance of employees and administering attendance management
  • Coordinate case management related to WCB, short and long term absences
  • Investigate and resolve customer and/or paratransit operations service concerns and implement corrective action to solve problems
  • Ensure that supervisory practices and standard operating procedures are consistent with Collective Agreements, health and safety practices, employment standards and other related regulations and corporate practices as required
  • Provide oversight to the development and review of operational analytics and other tools to evaluate service delivery
  • Provide input into shift design for operator signup to balance safety and service reliability/customer service and compliance with collective agreement
  • Assist in preparation of budgets while monitoring expenditures and providing input into monthly cost statements
  • Participate in DATS strategic planning to help develop strategies and plans for driver training needs, vehicle and equipment matters, financial resources, and human resources
  • Continually monitor internal and external environments and continually monitor and scan the transit industry in order to foresee trends and avert risks that may impact the integrity of the transit operations. Keeps uptodate with industry knowledge and peer connections
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Management, Business Administration, Human Resources, Public Administration or a related field, supplemented by training in management and leadership practices
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible management experience involving public transportation operations and human resource management. Preference for experience within the transit or transportation industry
  • Equivalencies for the above two qualifications may be considered
  • Experience and knowledge of paratransit service would be considered an asset
  • Experience working as a Supervisor in a unionized environment is required
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety processes, standards and best practices
  • Knowledge and experience dealing with human resource management practices and issues
  • Welldeveloped communication skills (oral, written, presentation)
  • Ability to work with a large and diverse workgroup and effectively develop individuals and teams working towards achieving common goals
  • Project management skills
  • Proven analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize information to provide evidence in support of sound decision making
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, utilize discretion and exercise sound judgment
  • Hire is dependent on a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and serviceminded style
