Discover Saskatoon is seeking a spirited adventurer passionate about #Saskatooning to join our team as our Social Media Specialist. This position reports to the Manager, Marketing & Communications.


Discover Saskatoon is a membership-based, non-profit visitor and convention bureau marketing Saskatoon and the region as a destination of choice for leisure and business travel.

Services include convention and events attraction, media relations, and visitor and membership services and advocacy.


As the internationally-accredited destination management organization for Saskatoon, we market and manage Saskatoon's authentic experiences at home and around the world.

By telling the story of our city, we inspire people around the world to visit.

Working as our Social Media Specialist, you will play a key role in sharing these stories across emerging and existing social platforms.


Position Summary:


As our Social Media Specialist, you understand the importance and impact of social media marketing and are an expert communicator with a strong command of social platforms.

On a day-to-day basis, you will monitor and maintain our brand presence on our social accounts, building relationships with influencers as well as our followers, industry partners, and future travelers.

You will be responsible for real-time, daily interactions with our online community, making meaningful and authentic posts.

This position involves supporting content scheduling, placement, monitoring, analytics, and reporting. Success in this role requires experience in such tactics as word-of-mouth campaigns, influencer strategy, and digital advocacy-building.

Additionally, you will be responsible for creating and curating high-quality social media content, staying current on digital trends, and driving engagement through the execution of Tourism Saskatoon's destination storytelling.


What You'll Need:

Minimum three years of experience in social media marketing, marketing and/or tourism or a combination of experience and a certificate, diploma, or degree in a marketing-related field

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in creating, maintaining, analyzing, and growing social accounts (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
  • Experience with Tik Tok and Instagram Reels would be considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of social media publishing standards, content sharing, creation, and adhering to brand standards. Ability to use good judgment in community engagement and issues management online
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting for social media
  • Strong organization, time, and project management skills
  • The ability to use design software (Canva, Adobe, etc.) considered an asset
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to work well on own or as a team player
  • Ability to travel throughout Saskatoon and region to develop social content, build relationships and expand Discover Saskatoon's connection to members and partners
  • Knowledge of SEO and Content Optimization considered an asset
  • Knowledge of analytics and key performance indicator (KPI) reporting
  • Experience with Asana is an asset
  • Knowledge and appreciation of all the amazing things Saskatoon has to offer

What You'll Do:


Organic and Paid Social Media Planning, Execution, and Reporting

  • Plan and execute brandaligned social media across channels, positioning Saskatoon as a destination of choice for consumers (corporate and leisure)
  • Monitor and engage with our social communities across all customerfacing marketing channels (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) striving to deliver a consistent and positive experience for all prospective, current and future travellers, regionally and globally
  • Oversee and engage with comments on promoted posts and paid ads as appropriate
  • Identify potential issues and work with the team to manage and respond to such situations quickly and professionally
  • Collaborate with our Digital Marketing Manager to ensure organic and paid social media plans, initiatives, and content are aligned
  • Proactively bring forward ideas for social content
  • Create original content according to brand standards and adapt content as needed
  • Collaborate crossfunctionally with other Discover Saskatoon teams and Saskatoon tourism partners to ensure a seamless and timely response to traveller inquiries
  • Work collaboratively with agency partners to effectively align and execute social media advertising strategies globally
  • Measure social media performance, identify social media consumer insights, and provide recommendations for ad optimization to ensure Discover Saskatoon is delivering the right content to the right consumer at the right time and on the right platform
  • Share insights and social media trends with the broader team as social media marketing continually evolves and changes
