Under the general supervision of the Senior Plan Examiner, the Plan Examiner 1 will provide such functions individually or in combination:- Examines plans (including specifications) for commercial buildings to ensure compliance with the various applicable by-laws, codes and regulations, with an emphasis on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
- Commercial Plan Examiner 1 examines plans for less complex projects than that assigned to Commercial Plan Examiner 2.
- Examines plans (including specifications) for some complex systems in larger buildings to ensure compliance with the various applicable by-laws, codes and regulations, with an emphasis on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
- Commercial Plan Examiner 2 examines plans for less complex projects than that assigned to Commercial Plan Examiner
- Positions at this level may be required to provide training and development of junior staff.
As the Commercial Plan Examiner 1/- Mechanical_,_
you will:
- Examine plans and specifications related to commercial building construction and alterations for compliance with various by-laws, codes and regulations.
- Organize and carry out assigned projects requiring coordination of plan examination functions with other Branches of the Division and with other areas of Plan Examination.
- Interact with applicants, professional designers (principally professional engineers), contractors, owners, trades persons, and the general public in matters related to the activities of the Branch.
- Other duties as assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
- Must hold a diploma in Engineering Technology (specialization stipulated as Mechanical Engineering Technology) or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer credential would also be considered.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials and principles of Mechanical systems for buildings, including HVAC, and sprinkler system knowledge.
- Knowledge of all required bylaws, codes and regulations and a knowledge of the Manitoba Building Code and other building regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings such as HVAC, and sprinkler drawing or designs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to interact effectively with staff, industry professionals and the general public.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare concise and accurate reports and correspondence.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize and carry out assigned plan examination projects, prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Ability to work under mínimal supervision and work independently.
Conditions of employment:
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- FOR PLAN EXAMINER
- Must possess a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) certification within (2) years. P. Eng. is also acceptable.
- FOR PLAN EXAMINER
- Must possess a Certified Engineering Technologist certification. P. Eng. is also acceptable.
- The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide CSA approved personal protective safety boots (six (6) inches above the ankle) at their own expense.
