Job Summary:


Under the guidance of the Director of Precision Medicine and Advanced Therapeutics, CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) and the Molecular Pathologist, Shared Health Clinical Genomics Laboratory, the incumbent is responsible for the development and validation of novel diagnostic assays to be used in support of the clinical and research precision medicine program at the Cancer Care Manitoba.


Qualifications:

  • Ph.
D. in Pathology
- or Genetics-related field from a recognized university within the past three years.

  • Thesis topic (or previous experience) should cover translational science in molecular oncology, with a broad exposure to the analytical and technical skills used in molecular diagnostics.
  • Must have experience in developing and validating molecular diagnostic assays.
  • Must have experience with most of the following techniques: immunohistochemistry, nucleic acid extraction, capillary electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (reverse transcriptase PCR, quantitative PCR), in situ hybridization, Sanger sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Must have experience in the use of public webbased genomics tools, including UCSC Genome Browser, Ensemble, Integrated Genomics Viewer, Primer 3, SNP Check.
  • Must have experience in statistical analysis, and in handling, processing and managing complex data.
  • Must have experience writing scientific reports.
  • Expert knowledge of the principles in cancer biology and genetics.
  • Indepth understanding of the methodologies used in molecular diagnostics.
  • Method development and troubleshooting. Is able to perform basic computer operations including MS Word, MS Excel, general internet searches, manipulation of online genetic and literature databases.
  • Must hold a satisfactory employment record
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada

  • Correctly identifies and prioritizes options as potential solutions to problems and issues.
  • Is creative, innovative, enthusiastic and respected.
  • Has strong communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Has excellent analytical skills and is able to implement new analytical instrumentation and develop and validate methods that are fit for clinical service.
  • Is able to troubleshoot methods and instruments successfully.
  • Demonstrates the ability to promote teamwork, collaboration and partnership.
  • Manages multiple projects successfully.

  • Experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
  • Knowledge of cancer biomarker databases (COSMIC, ClinVar, HGMD, dbSNP, OMIM, TCGA, 1000 Genomes, etc.).
  • Ability to speak French
