We are looking for a Microscopy Characterization Technician to support our Nanotechnology Research Centre. The Microscopy Characterization Technician would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.


Screening Criteria:


Education:

Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or Materials Science or a Technical Diploma in Electronics or Instrumentation.

An equivalent combination of work-related experience, training and education may also be considered.

Experience:


  • Experience with maintenance and repair is required;
  • Experience with vacuum systems is required;
  • Experience with electronics and electrical systems is required;
  • Experience with transmission electron microscope (TEM) use is an asset;
  • Experience with the analysis and interpretation of TEM data is an asset;
  • Experience with scanning electron microscope (SEM) use is an asset; and
  • Experience with atomic force microscopy (AFM) is an asset.

Technical Competencies:


  • Basic knowledge of vacuum systems;
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and electrical components;
  • Basic knowledge of electron microscopy;
  • Ability to take direction from a variety of sources, including scientific publications, standards, and verbally;
  • Ability to collect and analyse scientific data reliably;
  • Ability to communicate scientific findings orally and in writing;
  • Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and modify instrumentation; and
  • Knowledge of atomic force microscopy (AFM) is an asset.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.


Compensation:

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
