Position Summary
The Mechanical Fitter will assemble and install prefabricated parts, rebuild gears, bearings, motors and various machinery.

They will manage their workloads and work as a team to ensure all product is completed on time and meets quality standards.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Remove and reinstall propeller and tailshafts as per blueprints
  • Disassemble and reassemble bearings
  • Assemble and remove ship rudders as required
  • Fit propeller and tailshafts as per blueprints
  • Main propulsion installations and rudder bearing repairs
  • Overhaul and install bow thrusters
  • Overhaul and install deck winches
  • Overhaul and install steering gears
  • Install marine engines, generators and gearboxes
  • Install chain and electric hoists as required
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and spec sheets
  • Demonstrate flexibility to ensure deadlines are met
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional mechanical trade position
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Trade certification is an assist
  • Ship repair experience preferred

Working Conditions

  • Working indoors and outdoors
  • May work at heights using scaffolding, man lifts, ladders, etc
  • Working in confined spaces that may require the wearing of protective gear such as respirators, SCBA gear, and fall arrest harnesses, etc.
  • May be exposed to hot temperatures, inclement weather, noise, fumes and dust depending on job site
  • Prolonged periods working in a standing position
  • Lifting to a maximum of 80 lbs. Heavier objects may be lifted in conjunction with other employees or equipment
