Reporting to the Manager in Child & Adolescent Addictions and Mental Health & Psychiatry Program (CAAMHPP) Specialized Services, this Social Work temporary 6-month position serves children, adolescents, and their families who present with complex and co-morbid mental health disorders and associated developmental, cognitive and behavioural issues.

The position demands system expertise and solid clinical skills.

This position combines a clinical and coordinator/case management role and is responsible for facilitating timely, family-centered and consistent responses to referrals, service requests, case management, system connection and information gathering, resource finding, navigation and group therapy.

The role involves completing assessments of need, urgency and risk.

In addition, this position provides parents and/or professionals seeking services with information about the service mandate, model of care and information regarding other support services as is appropriate internal or external to AHS.

The Social Worker II works collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the child, adolescent and/ or the parent/family receives the most appropriate service available in response to the referral request.

This role is assigned to the Specialized Services Clinics at Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families


Your services may include:

psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).


Additional Required Qualifications:

1-3 Years working as a Social Worker required. 3 Experience working with parents and their children required. Demonstrated Ability to work independently and in a changing, fast-paced environment. Intermediate to advanced computer skills and ability to use audiovisual/Telehealth equipment. 1-3 years Training and experience working within a mental health setting required. Knowledge of principals of Family-Centered Care including normal child and family development. Demonstrated clinical ability to assess for therapeutic need, provided counseling and support treatment plans. Demonstrated ability to assess risk and identify clients/families in crisis. Knowledge of network of resources in Calgary and area.


Preferred Qualifications:

Group experience preferred. Brain Story certification preferred. Connect Care trained preferred. Collaborative Problem Solving trained preferred.

Must have a calm, warm and engaging style with proven ability to engage families who are highly distressed and dysregulated.
