Unit Summary:


The ICU at The Credit Valley Hospital Site is a 24-bed, Level 3, medical/surgical critical care unit staffed by an interprofessional team supporting a wide patient population within the Mississauga-Halton LHIN.

The ICU at the Credit Valley Hospital Site is approximately a 24 bed, level 3 medical/surgical critical care unit staffed by an interprofessional team.

Qualifications:


  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
  • ACLS & Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate required
  • Minimum of 35 years Intensive Care Unit nursing experience.
  • CCRN certificate completion is an asset.
  • Experienced with monitors, pumps, ECG machines, phlebotomy, and invasive pressure monitoring ventilators.
  • Excellent decision making & problem solving skills
  • Strong leadership & assessment skills
  • History of ongoing professional development and be a selfdirected learner
  • Demonstrates compassion, excellence and courage in daily interactions
  • Demonstrated respect and support for diversity within and among our patients, families and teams.
  • Recent experience in mentoring and preceptoring required
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and Commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including conflict resolution, negotiation, ability to have difficult conversations.
  • Knowledge and skill of PRISMA or CRRT an asset
  • Experienced in patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care.
  • Advanced physical assessment skills
  • Positive attendance and work record essential.
  • Demonstrates expert level of knowledge and experience and ability to manage the care of any patient admitted to the program.
  • Advanced knowledge of hospital standards, policies, procedures, reporting structure and emergency measures
  • Has the ability and desire to create a positive work environment where all staff are motivated to do their best
  • Ability to role model leadership behaviours and a desire for continuous improvement
  • Exceptional critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Excellent performance and attendance required

Responsibilities:


  • Supports the College of Nurses Standards of Practice and the Quality Assurance Program
  • Has strong knowledge and experience with Trillium Health Partners' patient care policies including but not limited those related to the professional practice of nursing staff
  • Provide support to patients and staff on an ongoing basis by rounding on staff daily
  • Prepares for and attends the daily patient flow meeting with an approach to supporting patient needs across the hospital.
  • Facilitate appropriate care planning with the interprofessional team to facilitate seamless transitions for our patients.
  • Act as the initial contact person for patient and family inquiries; infection prevention and control; patient flow and general daily operational inquires.
  • Is a positive role model and change champion for new initiatives
  • Assists in the development of effective interpersonal relationships among interprofessional team through coaching, mentoring and facilitating difficult conversations.
  • Monitors the quality of patient care through daily huddles and monitoring of key quality metrics on the Quality Board.
