  • Ray of Hope is currently seeking a _Youth Addiction Treatment Specialist_. In this role _you will oversee the intake, preadmission, and treatment planning for our program participants. You will work closely with family and community partners to ensure an exceptional level of participant centered care is provided for the youth at our Live-In Treatment facility.
Overview


The Youth Addiction Treatment Specialist (YATS) works alongside the Live-In Treatment Program Manager in overseeing and managing treatment planning for participants of the programs, with the primary focus on all aspects of the intake, pre-admission, and treatment planning processes.

The incumbent will support, guide, and direct the treatment of, and may also include some direct clinical services for participants of Live-In Treatment services.

They will participate in on-going training of staff under the direction of the Program Manager and Director. They may participate in staff orientation.

The YATS, in consultation with the Program Manager and Director may provide direct support to participants' caregivers by means of individual and family counselling/psychotherapy and mediation and will provide case management for participants by arranging for necessary supplementary services.

The position will facilitate communications with the participants' other professional supporters.

The YATS participates in clinical supervision within their assigned program area and in other areas of Youth Support Services as needed as part of the on-call team.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Intake_
  • To ensure an exceptional level of participant centered care is provided to our participants
  • Respond to requests for information (first contacts, referrals) within 48 hours.
  • Conduct preadmission screening and assessment interviews in a way that is respectful to the prospective client's stage of change and is trauma informed. Motivational Interviewing and conveying hope are core responsibilities of the role.
  • Provide initial support to families and youth seeking treatment while they move through the preadmission process.
  • Manage complex and volatile interactions between youth and their caregivers with sensitivity to privacy, power dynamics and the need for support, respect, and care by all members of the family system.
  • Maintain clear communication with other agencies and service providers involved with youth.
  • Monitor prospective participants while they are on the waiting list.
  • Provide brief counselling where appropriate.
  • Fully document the preadmission process.
  • Make referrals to other community resources as needed.
  • Clinical_
  • Will provide clinical supervision to staff in consultation with the Program Manager and Director, aimed at developing staff capacity as trauma capable Youth Support Workers in a therapeutic community milieu.
  • Required to make decisions and provide team leadership around issues such as: risk assessment & duty to report; assessment & treatment planning.
  • Required to communicate decisions to staff, delegate work, and be responsible for ensuring work is done in a timely, competent manner.
  • Will ensure parent coaching and counseling for each youth in the program is offered and options are provided for follow through.
  • In conjunction with Program Manager, provide individual treatment to participants (e.g., step work, crisis deescalation, mediation).
  • Take the lead in treatment planning for youth in livein treatment.
  • Provide case management for participants, maintaining good working relationships with participants' other professional supporters, and making wellinformed referrals to other necessary services.
  • Participate actively in the student placement selection process and provide administrative & clinical supervision to students.

  • Ensure professional standards are maintained with respect to documentation, medication management, safe food handling, as well as other occupational health and safety expectations.
  • Participate in weekly case management/staff meetings with the program manager and director.
  • Actively participate in the planning and implementation of staff training activities.
  • Respond to staff and youth requests and crises in a responsible, timely and flexible manner, in consultation with the program manager/director; and ensure the development and implementation of appropriate, personcentered responses occur.
  • Participate in the oncall manager rotation.
  • May be required to prepare and present public education and prevention presentations related to substance abuse for youth, families and other professionals.
