Role Responsibilities:


In this role, you will report to the Safety Team Lead, collaborating with other team members as well as staff within the OHS Program Delivery branch.

The incumbent will provide PME mechanical expertise in reviewing and interpreting the OHS Act, Regulation and Code.


They will assist in anticipating, identifying, and assessing equipment mechanical hazards and recommend control measures in all types of provincially regulated workplaces.


The incumbent will provide advice and technical analysis of issues to the Ministry and stakeholders in industry, labour, government, and other agencies regarding a variety of equipment hazards.


Your role is critical to delivery of front-line services (enforcement of the OHS legislation, investigation of incidents) as well as government operations and priorities.

As Powered Mobile Equipment Safety Specialist, you will be accountable for the following activities in the division:

  • Support OHS Delivery officers and investigators in work related to powered mobile and heavy equipment.
  • Participate in the regular review and revision of the OHS legislation and policies relating to powered mobile and heavy equipment, in accordance with the department regulatory review plan.
  • Develop explanation guides and publications and discuss policy interpretations powered mobile and heavy equipment.

Qualifications:


  • College Diploma (2 years) in a related field plus 6 years progressively responsible related experience as a Journeyperson Heavy Duty Technician, Red Seal; OR Related degree and 4 years related experience.
  • The position requires the following knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Valid Alberta Journeyperson Heavy Duty Technician Certificate, preferably with preferably with Interprovincial Red Seal equivalent
  • 10+ years experience as a Journeyperson. Must have proven experience with troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems, hydraulics, fires, steering and braking systems of heavyduty power mobile equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in occ
