Description

Overview:

Designs, analyzes, plans and modifies internal company networks. Tests and analyzes network facilities, including network control software, routers, switches, lines, modems, adapters and servers. Ensures optimum integration level of software products, infrastructure, and data based on business needs, communications systems, and evolving technologies. Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods.

Such activities may include the following as well as other duties as assigned:


Principal Responsibilities:


  • Provides technical data/voice support to users
  • Performs broad, moderately complex assignments for a client's environment at the customer's location or in a datacenter that require originality and ingenuity, using appreciable latitude.
  • Provides technical support to external clients and interpret customer reported problem(s).
  • Performs data/voice troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems
  • Analyzes network needs and recommends changes in design and/or procedures
  • Contributes to the design of data/voice network architectures and integrations
  • Evaluates data/voice hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes appropriate recommendations based on findings
  • Installs, configures, tests, and troubleshoots network hardware and software
  • Establishes secure environments for networks being installed
  • Gathers statistics on performance capacity and availability

Qualifications, Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities and Working Conditions:

  • Develops solutions to a wide variety of problem and works on projects requiring evaluation and analysis. Applies technical knowledge, concepts or theories when determining which solutions are best applied.
  • Work is performed independently requiring judgment and discretion. May receive limited guidance for new assignments. Work may be reviewed for overall technical adequacy.
  • Interacts mostly with internal company contacts. May represents department across organization or externally on projects.
  • Actions impact the completion of milestones within a project. Failure to accomplish work or erroneous decisions may result in delays to portions of a project and allocation of additional resources to remedy.

Experience:


  • Typically 35 years with bachelor's or equivalent or 13 years with master's

Education/Certification:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Distinguishing Characteristics:

- (preferred)
  • HP Server/Storage,

- (Plus)
  • VMware VCP, Cisco UCS, Network+, Server+, HP-AIS, Nimble, Riverbed, NetApp, Radisys.
  • Travel for training and client support typically %
  • CCNP or equivalent level certification in progress
  • Intermediate experience in Cisco routing, switching and wireless networks
  • Intermediate experience with Cisco ASA firewalls and client VPN devices
  • Intermediate experience with IPSEC and B2 tunnel configuration
  • Intermediate experience with services such as DNS, DHCP and WINS
