Our Team:


As a key member of the Departmental Leadership Team and Region's Communications Leadership Team, helps deliver on Regional Council's vision by promoting the community brand on local, national, and international levels.

Manages strategic communications and engagement across a diverse portfolio that includes economic development, an international airport, community building, and cultural services.

Works with departmental staff, Corporate Communications, and community stakeholders to build and implement meaningful community engagement strategies on key planning initiatives.

Provides strategic expertise to identify communications issues and risks. Forges strong relationships locally, nationally, and globally.


The Opportunity:


As a key member of the Region's Communications Leadership Team, you will help deliver on Regional Council's vision by promoting the community brand on local, national, and international levels.

You will have the responsibility of managing strategic communications and engagement across a diverse portfolio that includes economic development, an international airport, community building, and cultural services.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with departmental staff, Corporate Communications, and community stakeholders to build and implement meaningful community engagement strategies on key planning initiatives.

Using your strategic expertise, you will help identify communications issues and risks. You will have the chance to forge strong relationships locally, nationally, and globally.


You will supervise staff working in the areas of communications, community engagement, and promotions to deliver strategic communications for the corporation.


You will use your skills and experience to manage day-to-day communications activities, and consistent, coordinated responses to issues across the Department, with a focus on quality and strategic timing.


You will have the opportunity to develop an annual departmental communication plan and identify strategic promotional strategies that will support the development of the corporation's integrated brand strategy.


You will conceptualize, design, and implement meaningful, creative engagement strategies to ensure citizens are aware of and contribute to important conversations about significant public policy initiatives.


You will have the responsibility of developing and maintaining local, national, and international relationships to promote the Region's economic development strategy.


You will oversee the Department's social media platforms and develop social media best practice strategies to de-escalate issues and manage resident concerns arising from social media channels.


As a key member of the Region's Communications Leadership Team, you will work closely with corporate communications regarding media strategy and issue management.

You will develop media relations plans and integrated communication approaches in response to requests, as needed.

You will manage the planning and coordination of special events.

You will demonstrate the Region's commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, transparency, and accountability.

Performs related duties as required.


Knowledge of strategic communication and community relation practices, media relations, and social marketing technologies, normally acquired through a degree in a related field (e.g., journalism, communications, media studies, political science, business administration, public administration) plus progressively responsible related experience.

Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, legislation, standards, and collective agreements.

Understanding of economic development and community planning.


Analytical, problem-solving, research, and continuous improvement skills to assess and manage daily media issues and stay current with best practices to drive community engagement in key policy and planning initiatives.


Leadership, human relations, public relations, and presentation skills to supervise, train, develop, motivate, and support staff; establish and maintain working relationships; advise and support corporate leaders; make presentations to clearly convey information; negotiate media buys; and participate as an effective team member.
