Department/Faculty Summary
Psychiatry is a department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Our department couples basic science with clinical research to promote world-class investigations on issues relevant to mental health.


We have an active training program for psychiatry residents, with input from psychiatrists and other mental-health professionals from the University of Alberta Hospital, Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Misericordia Hospital and Alberta Hospital Edmonton.

We also offer separate MSc and PhD programs for graduate students (there are also available to psychiatry residents).

The Department also has a diverse group of outstanding scientists who are internationally recognized. These scientists are carrying out some of the leading-edge research in neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia.


Position Summary
This position reports to the Medical Education Team Lead.

It provides administrative support to Program Director, Associate Program Director, Coordinator of Psychotherapy Training and Local Examinations Coordinator to administer the Psychiatry Residency Training Program.


Duties

  • Maintain active resident, educational, and administrative files, as well as archival files
  • Coordinate Royal College style long case exams by soliciting examiners, distribution of schedules, coordination of venue setup, photocopying, distribution of grades, maintains exam dossier for each resident
  • Plan and organize retreats, workshops and guest speakers including invitations to speakers and/or attendees, advertising, registrations, arrangement of venue, catering, related correspondence, reimbursements/honorariums, and feedback
  • Distribute monthly/biweekly or end of rotation intraining evaluations to preceptors, and corresponding rotation evaluations to residents through One45 software
  • Reviews the Psychiatry Residents travel, hosting and expense reimbursement claims for completeness and accuracy and enters into PeopleSoft

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive administrative experience required
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment using MS Office as well as Google Suite required
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with problemsolving skills; effective working
  • Independently or cooperatively as a team member
  • Initiative, intuition, and creativity
  • Adaptability to changing environment; flexibility to accommodate varying workday demands
  • High level of tact and discretion; maintain and ensure absolute confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • The University of Alberta, College of Health Sciences experience preferred
  • Understanding of University of Alberta, Alberta Health Services policies and procedures preferred
