Compensation Range

$6, $10,433.50 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary


The HR Advisor & Workday Business Process Manager provides advice and counsel and makes recommendations on all human resources management issues to ensure best practices are established within their specific client portfolio.

This includes providing leadership with respect to the Focus on People Workplace Practices, Workplace Engagement Survey (WES) Initiative and other human resources strategies and initiatives.

The HR Advisor & Workday Business Process Manager develops relationships and partners with clients by providing human resources expertise into the formulation of their strategic business plans.

This is done by participating in the review of organizational structures, performance and change management issues and conflict resolution opportunities.

The HR Advisor & Workday Business Process Manager provides guidance and direction in handling employee relations issues including contract interpretation and grievance handling to Step 2, progressive discipline, investigations, terminations, return to work and accommodation initiatives.

Their approach, advice, and guidance respects individual unit identities and values while promoting alignment with UBC Strategic Plans and policies.

The incumbent will promote and influence a culture of respect, diversity and inclusion in the workplace through embedding these values in their approach, solutions, advice and guidance.


Additionally, the HR Advisor & Workday Business Process Manager is responsible for the smooth functioning of Advisory Workday transactions, approvals and other business processes.

The HR Advisor & Workday Business Process Manager works collaboratively with ISC, Operational Effectiveness and client departments to ensure the advisory requirements are reflected in business processes, as well as ensuring service standards within the unit are met.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Director - Staff Relations Academic Portfolio. Provides consultation to Supervisors, Department Managers, Directors, Department Heads, Vice-Presidents. Works with Employee Relations Managers, Organizational Training & Development Consultants, Return to Work Advisors, Pension Administrators and Benefit Administrators. Collaborates on systems issues and efficiencies with the ISC, Operational Effectiveness and other business partners.

Manages the Advisory Administrative Assistant 3. Provides direction to Human Resources Associates in Advisory Services.

Work Performed


Consults with and coach clients on all human resources management issues pertaining to staff employees so as to ensure human resource best practices are established within all units.


Provides leadership and support in the execution and integration of HR strategies, initiatives and policies such as Focus on People and the Workplace Engagement Survey.


Develops and maintains partnerships with client departments and provides advice into their strategic business plans by participating in the review of organizational structures, performance and change management issues and conflict resolution opportunities.

Provides interpretation and advice regarding collective agreements, contracts, government legislation and University policies, procedures, practices and guidelines.


Provides guidance in the management of employee relations issues including: progressive discipline; investigations; terminations; and return to work and accommodation initiatives.

Provide thorough overview of case with recommendations directly to Employee Relations Manager. Consult with Employee Relations Managers prior to advising on appropriate disciplinary action.
