Volunteer Ottawa is looking for a highly-organized, dynamic, non-profit leader who is both passionate and practical about the vital community-building work we do.

Our new Manager, Programs will help VO take its volunteer programs and member services to the next level, working in collaboration with VO colleagues, partners, and stakeholders in Ottawa and beyond.

DESCRIPTION


For over 65 years, Volunteer Ottawa has been connecting people to one another and to hundreds of local charities that rely on the time and talent of volunteers.

We provide supports and services to promote and celebrate volunteerism, help volunteers find opportunities, strengthen non-profit capacity through training and networking, inspire diversity and inclusion, and encourage local employers to invest in the community.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Programs Manager oversees the design and delivery of initiatives to recruit and support volunteers and provide value-added services to Ottawa's non-profits.


Your responsibilities include:


Management

  • Contribute to VO's strategic and operational planning, financial management and preparing reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for externally funded projects.
  • Plan and supervise the work of others as part of a crossfunctional team of full and/or parttime staff, students, consultants, contractors, and volunteers.

Volunteer Programming

  • Develop strategies to recruit volunteers who reflect the full social, economic, and cultural diversity of the region, to meet the needs of Ottawa's charities and nonprofits.
  • Design, plan and manage projects to implement these strategies, maximizing the use of internal resources, available funding, and the collaborative capacity of community partners.
  • Measure and analyze trends in the recruitment, placement, and satisfaction of volunteers to help VO plan, report on and improve its volunteer programs.

Membership Program

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of strategies to recruit and retain organizational and individual members.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of new/enhanced member services.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of resources and services needed by nonprofits to build and strengthen their volunteer programs.
  • Create tools to monitor, measure and report on the needs, engagement and satisfaction of VO's membership.
  • Conduct research on the evolving needs of nonprofits, including how other volunteer centres are responding, and develop recommendations on how VO should respond.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Post-secondary degree.


Career experience
- for-profit sector, including the development of funding proposals and reporting on results.


Language profile
English essential; bilingual (English and French) preferred; other languages considered an asset.

  • Planning and supervising the work of others (staff, contractors and/or volunteers)
  • Building partnerships, collaborations
  • Managing budgets; contracting services from external suppliers
  • Developing funding and sponsorship proposals
  • Designing and improving systems to organize information, manage data, measure results and analyze trends
  • Using a variety of communications, content creation and information management tools. Volunteer Ottawa uses MS-Office 365, SharePoint, WordPress, Google Analytics, MailChimp and most social media platforms.
  • Communicating orally and in writing; able to speak and write in a wellorganized, compelling manner and tailor messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of current trends and challenges in the notforprofit sector, including those related to volunteering.

Work arrangements and benefits

  • Must be based in Ottawa. We offer a flexible mix of workfromhome and inoffice arrangements.
  • Salary range: $50,000 to $54,000 per year
